Sep 17, Encouraging Results from Cold Sore/Facial Herpes Drug Test
Preliminary test results from Paris-based BioAlliance Pharma group show their antiviral acyclovir Lauriad reduced the healing time for patients with facial herpes lesions, as well as preventing the onset of lesions in some patients who presented prodromal symptoms (e.g. initial tingling).
The trial used a single-dose of the drug with a single-dose placebo as the control and included 722 patients with recurrent orofacial (cold sore type) herpes. The new drug uses the same tablet technology as Loramyc, the groups oral thrush (oropharyngeal candidiasis) treatment drug, which is already licensed in the United States and much of Europe.
